How did this story start?
In 2018, I started to work at the world-leading game company Electronic Arts. EA was the most successful company I had worked for at that time. I remember I was super nervous for a few months because of my impostor syndrome. All my colleagues and managers were really awesome and nice to me, but I always felt I was not good enough to perform well. Sometimes, my body physically reacted in destructive ways- fast heart beating with no reason, fever, dizziness, nausea and so on. After experiencing intense emotional swings and having some time to resolve the problems myself, I genuinely wanted to share my impostor syndrome experiences in creative ways. I hope this story is also helpful for someone who’s been through a similar situation.
Story Exploration
Originally, I envisioned the character as a junior fashion designer and even created a pitch deck to shape the story. It was a fun exploration, but something about it didn’t feel quite real. So, I decided to make Max a story artist instead—drawing from my own personal experiences to make the story more authentic and engaging. Looking back, I’m really happy with how it all came together.
MIA'S EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURE (2023)
This is the inciting incident sequence of my original feature-length story. Fourteen-year-old girl Mia is in a theme park alone on her birthday. She suffers from happy memories of her parents at the same park when she was young. Now she's alone. When she decides to let the happy memories go, something strange happens to her.
Speaking of the summary of this feature-length story, this 14-year-old Mia is actually just a memory in her dream. Her heart is badly broken and traumatized by the relationship at this moment. Adult Mia(who is the real one) needs to look after her wounds from her past life. That is why Adult Mia tries to communicate with the 14-year-old girl Mia in her memory. The world tree in this story is the core neuron of her identity. The neuron's shape reminds me of a tree a lot, so I built the world based on it. It looks like an adventure fantasy genre, but the core theme is built up based on a psychological background.
But mainly, I just wanted to have a lot of fun making this sequence.

Original Storyboard Sequence — First Pass / Work in Progress
An original fantasy-adventure sequence currently in development. This first storyboard pass focuses on staging, character performance, visual comedy, action, and cinematic pacing. The sequence is being revised and refined as part of an ongoing story development process.
About the Project
I’ve always loved the satire, humor, and richness of traditional Korean culture—especially stories about clever heroes who use magic to outwit corrupt elites. Sunwoo Jin was inspired by the protagonists of classic Korean tales such as Hong Gildong-jeon and Jeon Woochi-jeon, reimagined here as a witty, righteous female hero.
This sequence takes place in Act 1 of a feature-length animated story. My goal was to introduce the main characters and world while keeping the sequence visually engaging through dynamic action and varied camera movement. I also wanted the opening and closing moments to echo each other, giving the sequence a stronger sense of completion.
It was a very fun project for me, and I’d love to continue developing the story further if I have the opportunity.
Synopsis
In a kingdom shaped by ancient legends of dragons, the ambitious Taek offers a mysterious girl named Soha to a powerful Vice-Premier, believing she is the legendary Choi Family Treasure—and the key to finding a dragon’s missing scale.
But the deal is interrupted by Taek’s son Han and the mischievous Taoist outlaw Sunwoo Jin, setting off a chaotic confrontation. As Jin attempts to steal the supposed treasure, an unexpected power is awakened, revealing that Soha has been protecting a far greater secret: Han himself is the true Choi Family Treasure.

THE LAST VISIT (2023)
Boards (slides)
A personal dramatic sequence inspired by a final moment with my grandmother.
I grew up sharing a very special bond with my grandmother. While my mother was busy working, my grandmother was the one who raised me, and we spent countless moments together during my childhood.
This dramatic sequence is inspired by a deeply personal memory.
Years later, while living a busy adult life, I went to visit my grandmother in the hospital after not seeing her for some time. When I arrived, she was in a deep sleep and did not wake when I first called her name. I called again, more urgently this time, and after a moment she slowly opened her eyes. She looked at me for a long time and began to cry quietly.
I tried to smile and joked gently, asking why she was crying when I had just arrived, but I found myself crying as well.
That moment became our final goodbye. My grandmother passed away later that same evening after my visit.
Even now, I feel that her love and the lessons she gave me remain at the core of who I am. She often told me, “If you truly try, you have the strength to achieve anything.” Whenever I lose confidence or feel ready to give up, those words still lift me up.
I created this sequence as a way to remember that final moment we shared.
The Way Home (2023)
This is a webcomic I made for our dog, Cloud. I tried to recap his journey before he came to us.

WEEKEND GESTURE DRAWING
I have been hosting my previous coworkers from Electronic Arts and Mainframe Studios to weekend gesture drawing sessions since the Fall of 2020. We try to practice gesture drawing every Sunday morning and share our drawings as a weekly routine. Most of these drawings are drawn in 15 sec to 5 mins maximum. (of course, colouring/toning drawings took longer) Sometimes it is tricky to draw and chat at the same time but we just love talking about random topics and sharing our different cultures as well while we're drawing something together. Thanks to this drawing session, I feel that my shorthand quick sketch skills are improved greatly. I will probably keep running this small group drawing session! :)
FILM STUDY
<Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark> is one of my favorite films! This film is made in 1981 but I can be fully engaged with the characters and story. That's what a masterpiece defines. I studied one of the most well-known sequences of this movie for learning how the director keeps the tense and entertaining with actions and cinematography. I could see a lot of detailed decision-making by Steven Spielburg for conveying the story clearly. Also when I figured the core intention of each shot out for conveying the story better very meticulously, I just can't stop admiring the director's decision-making. I keep studying great sequences this way.
