MIA'S EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURE
This is the inciting incident sequence of my original feature-length story. Fourteen-year-old girl Mia is in a theme park alone on her birthday. She suffers from happy memories with her parents at the same park when she was young. Now she's alone. When she decides to let the happy memories go, something strange happens to her.
Speaking of summary of this feature-length story, this 14-year-old Mia is actually just a memory in her dream. Her heart is badly broken and traumatized by the relationship at this moment, Adult Mia(who is the real one) needs to look after her wounds when she got from her past life. That is why Adult Mia tries to communicate with the 14-year-old girl Mia in her memory. The world tree in this story is the core neuron of her identity. Neuron's shape reminds me to tree a lot so I build the world based on it. It looks like the adventure fantasy genre, but the core theme is built up based on psychological background.
But mainly, I just wanted to have a lot of fun with making this sequence.

THE LAST VISIT
This is a dramatic sequence based on my personal story. I had a very close bonding with my maternal grandmother since I was born. While my mom was busy as a working mom, she took care of everything for me as a primary caregiver. And when she was unwell, I just started to grow my career in Seoul. I wish I could visit her more often, but I couldn't because of my busy life in a different city.
When I visited her hospital during the Mid-autumn Festival holiday season in 2013, she was unconscious for a while. No one was expected. She didn't wake up by my mom's calling. I called her desperately. At some point, she opened her eyes weakly. When we see each other, I knew she subtly recognized me. She just kept tearing up without any word. And then, fell asleep again. We didn't know that when we left her room but that was the last moment we could share with my grandmother.
To be honest, it was emotionally so hard to work on this sequence. Even though it's a little bit adapted story, this sequence keeps reminding the moment I shared with her for the last time. For making deep emotional expressions, I naturally made my face frown while I drew their sad moments. It kept making my emotion down and drained deeply. But I ended up finishing it and I want to give huge credit to myself for these personal reasons. And yes, I still miss her so much.

HOW I MET YOUR DAD
This is the last assignment from Stephephanie Ma Stine in "Flash Feature Animation Storyboarding" class at Brainstorm School:
"Choose a real, personal conversation you had with someone where one of you made the other laugh really hard. Include the dialogue on the panel. The goal of this exercise is to showcase your grasp of subtle acting being able to turn the head, your mastery of eye and mouth shapes, and your draftsmanship. Observe the 180 rule, Keep the setup simple: just two people talking in a specific location."
I set this story up based on my real experience of how I met my husband and tell my imaginary son.
THE WAY HOME
SCOUT THE BLUE-EYED HUSKY
This is an economic work process with beat boards. Main goal of this work is drawing fewer A - B poses, and practiced condensing the story with limited numbers of panels to see the vision of the story in a bigger picture clearly(without dialogues).
I CAN'T WAIT! _ 10 panels story challenge
Setup & Pay off Story challenges with 10 panels. I did this assignment during the class at Concept Design Academy with Max Perkins. This story is inspired by my personal life with my husband and my husky, Scout.
ON THE ROAD_Next 5 Panels Game (w/ Pitching)
This is the first assignment I did during the class at Concept Design Academy with Max Perkins. I picked one illustrator and made the rest of the story up based on "Set up and Pay off".
THE SNOWY NIGHT_Next 5 Panels Game (w/ Pitching)
This is the first assignment I did during the class at Concept Design Academy with Max Perkins. I picked one illustrator and made the rest of the story up based on "Set up and Pay off". I wanted to put a little bit of twist at the end
WEEKEND GESTURE DRAWING
I have been hosting my previous coworkers from Electronic Arts and Mainframe Studios to weekend gesture drawing sessions since the Fall of 2020. We try to practice gesture drawing every Sunday morning and share our drawings as a weekly routine. Most of these drawings are drawn in 15 sec to 5 mins maximum. (of course, colouring/toning drawings took longer) Sometimes it is tricky to draw and chat at the same time but we just love talking about random topics and sharing our different cultures as well while we're drawing something together. Thanks to this drawing session, I feel that my shorthand quick sketch skills are improved greatly. I will probably keep running this small group drawing session! :)
BAUDEOGI (50 Thumbnails Practice w/ Shot Planning)
This is one of the feature-length story I'm personally working on
Baudeogi is a historical real figure in Chosen dynasty. Since I knew about her story I was so interested in this female pioneer. She was the Namsadang troupe's first and last lead female performer, Kkokdusoe, and is the innovator of the current Anseong Namsadang. In the past, many tried to find the source of Korean pop culture and art from the Western culture. However, the current pop culture and art is deemed to have come from Korea's pop art, not from the West.
The Sadangpae performers are always at the center of such efforts to explore the source of Korean pop culture. And, Baudeogi, the only female Kkodusoe lead performer, represented the Sadangpae troupe. Thus, Baudeogi, who explored the country’s pop culture, is the innovator of Korean entertainment culture.

In Chosen dynasty, a performer is regarded as one of the lowest job classes. I started to build a story with <The Prince and the Pauper> by Mark Twain.  What if a poor performer looks identical to a princess who's sick of her royal family life? So in this sequence, the princess snuck out of the palace with her court lady to see the clown Baudeogi, when she heard that the clown looks literally identical to her. and the guards try to find the princess to get her back to the palace.
I tried to summarize the moment when they meet Baudeogi and princess Sohye, with rough thumbs in 50 panels. Working economically is the core sense of a feature story artist! I keep training it myself.

INSTATOON
I wanted to share a slice of my real life as a story artist. Like many other artists do the same way, I also emulate the character's facial expression naturally. (Sometimes, my facial muscles are even more tired than my right hand!) I am so thankful that I found my husband who thinks this habit is cool.
FILM STUDY
<Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark> is one of my favorite films! This film is made in 1981 but I can be fully engaged with the characters and story. That's what a masterpiece defines. I studied one of the most well-known sequences of this movie for learning how the director keeps the tense and entertaining with actions and cinematography. I could see a lot of detailed decision-making by Steven Spielburg for conveying the story clearly. Also when I figured the core intention of each shot out for conveying the story better very meticulously, I just can't stop admiring the director's decision-making. I keep studying great sequences this way.
